To Tom Barrett, November 7, 2025
Today I received this letter from Representative Tom Barrett:
November 6, 2025
"Dear Mr. Jackson,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent defacing of my congressional office in Lansing. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me.
Vandalizing or defacing private property — with chalk, paint, or something else — is against the law. Beyond that simple fact, every minute my staff spends scrubbing the walls and cleaning up our private property is time taken away from a neighbor in need that we could be helping. This is wrong and will not be tolerated.
My office in Lansing is, and will continue to be, where my staff and I work every day to serve the people of Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. It’s disappointing that anyone thinks this disrespectful behavior is acceptable, but it will not deter us from showing up and doing our job. Thank you again for contacting my office, and I’m sorry we disagree on this straightforward issue of right and wrong."
My Response:
In your letter to me dated November 7, 2025, you express your outrage at the sidewalk chalk messages calling you "One Term Tom" among other things. That you claim you forcing your staff to clean it up "is time taken away from a neighbor in need that we could be helping a neighbor" assumes you have done something to help your neighbors. I have seen no evidence that you have done a thing to help anyone.
You claim you are upset because these chalked messages (on a PUBLIC sidewalk, not your PRIVATE property) because they are "against the law." You claim you that illegality "will not be tolerated" and that this is a "straightforward issue of right and wrong." For the record, you have an almost infinite capacity to encourage and support illegal behavior as long as it doesn't hurt your childish feelings.
You support the following serious crimes: 1400 Jan. 6 rioters were convicted of crimes--silence from you. This week a federal judge ordered Trump to pay SNAP benefits, he is illegally denying that order in full--silence from you. Trump illegally bombs boats in the Caribbean--silence from you. You proudly support Trump, with his 34 felony convictions, his legal culpability for sexual assault, his continual unconstitutional use of his office for his personal enrichment.
How dare you lecture your constituents that illegal activity "will not be tolerated" and "right and wrong?" You support a criminal's political agenda, you support his attempt to violently overthrow a democratic election and his promise he will try to do so again. If you were capable of shame, you'd completely withdraw from public life in humiliation.
